With the rollout of 5G networks, the industry is facing new challenges. 5G will be largely deployed in a small cell format, using high-band millimeter-wave (mmW) frequencies. To develop network plans, mobile operators use 5G NR modeling software with advanced propagation models, complex antenna array and full multi-technology capacity simulators. Failure to install per planned specification will lead to sub optimal 5G network performance. Similarly, failure to identify nearfield RF obstacles (not identified by the 5G modeling software) may render the cell unusable. In this presentation we will introduce different solutions to achieve accurate antenna alignment during installation, detect near-field obstacles, generate reliable line-of-sight surveys, and remotely monitor alignment to optimize 5G networks.
